The fourth ride of the Tour du Faso arrived Saturday at the Place de la Nation in Ouahigouya. We were there, alongside the Avenue de Mopti. More pictures here.
The sea

"La mer est une grande étendue d'eau salée" (The sea is a large stretch of salty water) - that is how pupils of the third year learn what's the sea. How it feels to walk barefoot in the water, how the salty air tastes on the tip of your tongue, how ugly the average day tripper is, the fear for a big wave to come... impossible to imagine in a land without coast. "The sea" will always remain "a large extent of salty water", nothing more...
With god's blessing

During village meetings, the strangest things may happen: in the village of « Zom », a man started singing plaintively. The lamentation was to bring us god’s blessing.
Back to school

almost 10 000 burkinese primary school children receive school materials from BIBIR. a bag with some notebooks and pencils for the whole school year. this young man's t-shirt is a remnant from blaise compaoré's giant election campaign. he was 're-elected' president in November 2005.
Drawing water from the well
2006/Week 40
The water of a modern well is much cleaner than the water of a traditional one. This well in Koumna has been rehabilitated by Ocades. But that is not sufficient. Hygiene is also important while drawing the water (having a clean bag), while transporting it (having clean receivers) and while storing it (in a closed jar or jerry can).
