Women set the example2007/Week 29 ![]() They are barely literate, but very motivated. Already for three years, the women of Yam-Waya in Pobé Mengao are managing a credit fund of about 3000 euros, or almost one hundred loans. Thanks to their punctual refunding, they can from now on continue by themselves.
Ramoncito2007/Week 28 ![]() The man on the picture is called Ramon. Ramoncito for his friends. After having worked during more than two years as anesthetist in Ouahgouya's hospital, he is returning home to Cuba on July 11. He's a pure latino who comes from time to time to sing serenades at the window of Bibir's secretary. He almost doesn't speak French, but he lives in the illusion that everyone understands his Spanish. In 1965 he was a student of Alberto Granado, the man who traveled through Latin America together with Ernesto 'Che' Guevara (for those who have seen the movie Motorcycle Diaries, by Walter Salles). When Ramoncito hears the name Granado, he starts telling endless stories about him. He even gets tears in his eyes. His device: "It's better to spend 5 francs to food than to the doctor." We fully agree.
Hamado will get married2007/Week 27 ![]() The two men on the picture are preparing the " pug-puusem " of Hamado. This is the ceremony during which the relatives of the man ask for a young girl's hand. Her family receives plenty of kola nuts and salt, traditional products of great value.
