Sarata is Bibir's secretary and she married happily in July 2007. Salif is one of the drivers and he has always wanted Sarata as his second wife. It has never been serious, it was more a game. And the game still goes on even after Sarata's marriage. It's all very innocent: it brings alife the dull secretariat where nothing really happens.

Last Saturday was Salif's day: his motorbike didn't start and Sarata proposed to drop him at his place with HER motorbike. He's smirking like only men can smirk when they got the candy they've been longing for...

Removing onion stalks

In Gasdonka, women are cutting the stalks of their onions. If they left them, the onions would grow flowers and the bulb quality would diminish. The stalks aren't lost: they end up in today's sauce.

Brickmaking in the sun

2008/Week 7

Clay, water, a mould and sun. That's all youngsters of the village Kontigué need to make bricks. Those bricks do not last as long as oven baked bricks. During the rainy season they often start crumbling. But an oven to bake bricks needs wood. And that is a scarce and valuable item here in Burkina Faso.

When women take over

Behind the barrage bank of Koumna, you find a large vegetable garden. First it was exploited by the village men, but after years of organizational problems and quarrels, women took over the garden. And now, it works.
