Doing the bride's hair

December is a busy month full of celebrations. Tabaski (Eid Al Adha), Christmas, Liberation Day (the 28th), New Year's Eve, and on top of that some wedding parties. Heleen has set herself up as 'cameraman'. The two of her colleagues that got married this month both made an appeal to her filmic qualities. Because she's really good (in the country of the blind, the one-eyed man is king), or maybe just because she's doing it all for free and for nothing. African solidarity, remember.

The most fun in all this party fuzz is that a cameraman is allowed to look at everyone and everything from all sides. Most exciting is the hairdressing salon.

On her big day, the bride is spending the whole morning from before dawn in the hairdressing salon to be made beautiful. In Burkina Faso, all of this is being photographed and filmed. Very special, also because the setting is cheerful and colourful. It doesn't need much of explanation: Binto is a very photogenic bride. See for yourself.
